Handbrake

Use on Hill Starts
It can be tricky using the footbrake to hold the car on a hill during a hill start.

I apologise for the poor sound quality.

The handbrake is not as powerful as the footbrake and so can be used better to 'hold' the car on a hill.

When you brake driving forwards 75% of the brake force is on the front wheels.

On this Skoda Citigo the front wheels have disk brakes which are more expensive and are heavy. The rear wheels have drum brakes which are lighter and cheaper.

The handbrake controls the rear drum brakes and the footbrake controls all 4 brakes on each wheel.

So on a hill you would use the handbrake and get to the bite and then release the handbrake so there is an overlap of handbrake holding and pulling forward with the engine - a small overlap.
